Gareth Cox, live/studio engineer, graduated from Derby University, with a 2-1 Bsc(hons) degree in Music Technology and Audio Systems Design.
Gareth grew up with a musical performance background, taking lessons in trumpet and piano, and performing as part of school orchestras, The Croydon Symphonic Band, and the southern counties second section Croydon Brass Band, performing all around southern England, including the remembrance service on HMS Belfast.
Gareth also took part in a performance of Blood Brothers – as part of a France/England music exchange, singing the parts of Eddie, in the popular songs, 'That Guy' and 'My Friend' performed to a large audience in Paris.
Since leaving school, Gareth went to Archbishop Tenisons, Croydon, where he gained A levels in Music, Maths and Economics, the school provided a sequencing studio for his own use, which inspired Gareth to work harder to become an engineer.
Using this stepping stone to become an engineer, in 2000 and 2001 Gareth worked for ICC at the New Wine and Spring Harvest Conferences – as a tape operator and copy engineer.
Upon reaching 18, Gareth took a 'gap year' and went on the Raleigh International Expedition to Costa Rica & Nicaragua, where he learned skills in team building, team work, leadership, as well as the spanish language, building and architecture skills, and scuba diving.
Gareth returned in 2002 to start his degree at Derby University, where he became a popular studio engineer, and amongst his peers, would run studio sessions at the Green Lane Studios, and go on to work with Dan Dexter as a great producer/engineer team.
Gareth and Dan would work on many projects throughout their time at university, which would soon go on to build the foundations of their ever growing portfolio.
After graduating in 2005, Gareth went on to The Lost Glory school of worship, which played a key part in developing his character for what was to lie ahead of him, the residential school lasted for 4 months, and brought strength and positive developments to his life. After just 3 months, the director of the school – Dave Markee, approached Gareth to find out his vision and future plans.
It wasnt until January 2006, that this was revealed, and Gareth was asked to manage Dave's recording studio, the studio then went on to become Ambushed Studios in Croydon, Surrey.
Gareth has just gone on to further his developments, by achieving a 'level 3 City & Guilds in electrical testing and inspection'
Ambushed Studios now has a range of clients that come from a diverse style of musical genres.. working with acoustic artists, assisting in their songwritting, to full live recordings, by gospel, rock, heavy metal bands, and even hip hop artists. Gareth also works on corporate projects, providing radio jingle for radio shows, and audio for television adverts broadcast worldwide.
Ambushed Group are the creative directors of the Croydon Jazz Festival, and sponsor Testing 123 – a Croydon based battle of the bands competition, which has seen local talent from the band Size Nine and singer/songwriter Joshua C.Edwards go onto great things.
Dave Markee, the Director of Ambushed Group, is better known as the well respected and successful bass player who has recorded and toured with the likes of Eric Clapton, Joan Armatrading and Faith Hill, he also founded the now thriving Folly's End Church, and has planted two Lost Glory Schools, one in Croydon, UK and the other in Charlotte, USA.
As well as running the studio, Gareth uses his skills as a freelance engineer for live events working with Chaps Production Company, Aztec Commuications Ltd and a selection of others, as a sound engineer for conferences, meetings, music showcases, gigs, parties and outdoor concerts... a selection of these include working with signed artists from SONY BMG, in some of London's top hotels and venues.
In 2009 Gareth embarked on his first UK tour as monitor engineer for British Electro-pop act FRANKMUSIK, performing at club venues around the country and selling out 1500 tickets at London's KOKO in Camden.
Gareth has had much interest for tours to continue in 2010 and hopes to build his portfolio and his reputation.
